What Is the TC Treatment for OEM Petri Dish

In cell culture, the selection of culture dishes is crucial, especially for the cultivation of adherent cells. TC-treated culture dishes are indispensable. This article will detail the TC treatment of OEM petri dishes to help you better understand the importance of this technology in cell culture.

What is TC Treatment?

TC treatment, also known as Tissue Culture Treated, refers to the surface modification of culture dishes to make them suitable for the growth of adherent cells. Adherent cells, such as most animal cells, must rely on specific support surfaces to grow effectively. TC-treated TC culture dishes, OEM petri dishes can provide an ideal attachment surface, ensuring that cells can firmly attach, divide, and proliferate.

In the early days, most cell culture consumables were made of glass. Due to the natural hydrophilic properties of glass, no special surface treatment was needed to support cell attachment. However, with the development of polymer materials, polystyrene (PS) gradually replaced glass to become the main material for cell culture consumables.

PS has good transparency, easy processability, and chemical resistance, but its hydrophobic surface is not conducive to the attachment of adherent cells. Therefore, TC-treated OEM petri dishes introduce hydrophilic factors to significantly enhance the attachment of adherent cells.

Why Do OEM Petri Dishes Need TC Treatment?

OEM petri dishes' TC treatment primarily addresses the hydrophobic surface of polystyrene, enabling it to better support the growth of adherent cells. Although traditional glass culture dishes have natural hydrophilicity, their processing and usage costs are high. The OEM petri dishes used in modern cell culture are mainly made of polymers, such as polystyrene. Although this material has a light transmission rate of over 90%, facilitating cell observation under a microscope, its hydrophobic surface makes it difficult for cells to attach, grow, and proliferate.

Through TC treatment, the surface properties of OEM petri dishes are changed. Under the action of plasma surface treatment, the chemical bonds of polystyrene surface molecules are broken, making the surface rougher and more hydrophilic. This modification greatly improves the attachment of adherent cells. Therefore, OEM petri dishes with TC treatment are not only suitable for adherent cells but can also be used for the culture of some suspension cells, further broadening their application scope.

OEM Petri Dishes' TC Treatment Applications

TC treatment is widely used in various cell culture consumables, including cell culture flasks, cell culture plates, and OEM petri dishes. For example, the cell culture series from GongDong use vacuum plasma treatment on the culture surface. Under vacuum conditions, the thin gas in an electric field causes collisions, forming highly active plasma. This induces the chemical bond breakage and degradation of plastic surface molecules, increasing surface roughness and hydrophilic properties. Hence, cell culture products from GongDong exhibit excellent cell adhesion.

Additionally, GongDong cell culture dishes, plates, and flasks are made of highly transparent polystyrene, sterilized by electron beam, pyrogen-free, endotoxin-free, and designed for easy stacking without sliding.
